Overview

1. Description of "Our Community"

The "local community"is one that can be described as being rural. Most of the people that live here depend on Agriculture and Fishing for their survival. The community of Mayaro is bordered by Manzanilla, Guyaguyare and Rio Claro with a couple of smaller villages being on the fringes.

This district is one that boast of a thriving petro-based industry with the likes of BPTT being the main Co. in this area. Mayaro is also home to some of the nations most interesting sites as this project will seek to explore and bring to the fore front, so that people near and far will be able to take notice and show their interest by visiting and being witness to the beauty that our community has come to call our” Hidden Treasure” ( NOTE: "community" need not be restricted by geographic location.)
Limit your comments to 300 words (2000 characters).

2. Summary of Our Project

Our Cyberfair project is about Local Attractions in our community and we have chosen some of the sites that are very popular and dear to our community. These sites range form man made things to natural wonders all the more important to our community as these sites can be tracked and visited by all interested persons and groups who may want to tour our community and witness these thing from a  first hand point of view. The data gathered for this project comes directly from knowledge of our students and teachers and admittedly may have room for info but as it stands all that is supplied is as accurate as it can come at this present time.

3. CyberFair Theme

By learning of these remarkable sites we wish to expose to the public,it will help people to learn of our hidden treasures and unite us by the interest that will be shown by the outdoor and nature lovers who will visit our community to bear witness to our offerings.

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the school: 0

C. Connection speed used in our school school: Nil

D. Number of years our school has been connected to the Internet: 0

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):
As can be seen this school to date has not gotten their internet connectivity activated thus far,but with willing students and teachers decided that we will not be handicapped by this shortcoming and try to defy the odds and still produce a project that is worthy of being on the WWW
.

5. Problems We Had To Overcome

Barriers we faced while doing this project included lack of internet for our student body and the timing as this was a very packed term with the SEA, Sports, Easter parade, the President’s inauguration, the visit of prince Charles to name a few of the distractions this group faced in trying to get this project completed. Our main problem however was the lack of the usage of the internet by our students who as an alternative had to rely heavily on Mr. Fraser to get our work done.

6. Our Project Sound Bite

This project has meant plenty to us students in that it allows us to showcase our community and to be able to share it with people over a vast cross- section of our nation and hopefully across the world .

7. How did your activities and research for this International Schools CyberFair Project support required coursework and curriculum standards?

Plenty of the work came down to our skills in investigation, asking ourselves question and coming up with interesting and accurate answers. Our essay writing skills were also tested and in going with our EMA project we able to get right to the root of the environmental factors that were involved in the creation of this project. The usage of the environment for this project allowed us to tap into our Social Studies skills and really get the job done. This experience also gave us the chance to work as a team and so we were able to learn that with group work and cooperation we can be a good group filled with ideas and initiatives.

Project

Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you use to complete your

      CyberFair project?

The list of tools used are as follows :-

-  1 markvision computer with dial up internet access

-   digital still cameras to take our photos

- scanner

-  Internet

- library at school

These tools were the tools that were available for our use and it was very helpful as we as a 1st. time entrant are looking to build from here and get better equipped for any future efforts that we may pursue. Our most valuable equipment was the PC that our web master allowed us to make use of to complete this project

.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your

     CyberFair project ?

An "ambassador" is a person who represents his or her country or, in this case, school or organization. In order to accomplish this project your students probably contacted and talked to people in your community... in person, through letters and phone calls, and through email. During those contacts, students probably had to tell them about this project and some of the other things that you were doing at school.

In this section, tell about the different ways that students contacted people in your community.

This was very limited as the time constraint experienced hardly allowed us to do this project as from a community point of view.Hoping to use a different approach for any future endeavours

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Describe how your involvement in this project has strengthened the "relationship" between your school and your local community, or describe the anticipated impact your project will have in the future.
