Project Overview 1. DESCRIPTION OF OUR COMMUNITY Trinidad and Tobago was discovered in 1498 by Christopher Columbus. Moruga, Located in south Trinidad has the reputation of being the only place in this island lured Columbus to its shores. Being short of fresh water Columbus spotted a river flowing into the beach which Columbus named “Punta de La Playa”, which means “Point of the Beach” Columbus located abandoned fishing implements which were clear signs of the Arawaks. It wasn’t until three centuries later that the river was given the name Moruga. The region around Moruga remained untouched until the much cited Cedula of Population when French settlers and the slaves came to Trinidad. The settlers established sugar estates, coffee estates and cotton estates. The members of the community of Moruga mainly depend on agriculture and fishing to gain an income. There are presently plans to build a Port to facilitate trade with South America this will lead eventually to further development of our community.

Project Elements
1) What information tools & technologies did you use to complete your CyberFair project?
- two desktop computers - telephones - video and digital still cameras - cell phones - Internet - libraries - books, newspapers - oral interviews
These tools made it extremely easier to complete the given task. The web design software was also a great asset as no skill was necessary in putting the site together. Students conducted oral interviews, took short notes then organized their notes into informative data.
2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project ? All students acted as ambassadors and contributed gainfully towards the collection of information. Several interviews were conducted at the various sites and those interviewed gave freely of their time and knowledge.
3) What has been the impact of your project on your community? The children involved will be able to inform others within their community of the various attractions within their community. Because of their new found self awareness they can become better caretakers of their environment and build a legacy to pass on to others within the community. Through this medium this presentation is the first of its kind in this community thus it will be welcomed. Most people within the community, including myself, was not aware the various sites visited an I expect it will be a real eye opener. This project saw students interacting more with the members of their community. Parents as well encouraged their children to do the work needed to get this project completed.
4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers? This project could not have been completed without the assistance of the Principal of our school Mrs. Jagroop, whose persistence saw us through. Other members of staff, Mrs. Glodon, Mr. Gibbs,Ms Mohammed and Mr. Mohammed all assisted us. The thoughtfulness of one parent that provided transportation to and from our various sites also needs to be mentioned as well as the driver of the taxi also used in our transportation. Thank you one and all.
