MOE Celebrates Most Outstanding 2020 CAPE Students

The Ministry of Education hosted and celebrated the achievements of the two (2) Most Outstanding Students at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations 2020. At an intimate ceremony held at the Education Towers on Friday, 19th March, 2021, Amrit Galbaran and Anjali Maharaj met with Dr. the Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly. The former Hillview College and Naparima Girls’ High School students had the opportunity to share their journey toward attaining this distinction. Both students highlighted that perseverance and support from parents and teachers were the driving forces behind their success.

In attendance at the event were Mr. Esmond Ford, Member of Parliament for Tunapuna, and Mr. Makesi Peters, Special Advisor to the Attorney General, along with parents and principals of the awardees’ former secondary schools. In delivering her address to the audience, Dr. Gadsby-Dolly stated, “The pride of our country rests on you. Even if you leave our shores and return years from now, I encourage you to think country and to think patriotism.”

This was the first time the Ministry has hosted the President Medal winners, and Minister Gadsby-Dolly highlighted the reason for this: “If it were not for the pandemic, these students would have been able to interact and be celebrated by their Alma Mater and other entities. Since this would not be possible, we believed it imperative that we celebrate excellence and hold them up as exemplars, worthy of emulation.”
