Learning without limits: Laptops land in Tobago

The national distribution of laptops to form 1 students continued today, Monday 1st December, in Tobago as 268 government issued laptops were distributed to students of Harmon School of SDA, Roxborough Secondary School and Mason Hall Secondary School. Today’s ceremony, held at Mason Hall Secondary School, follows the launch of the initiative at Penal Secondary School on 27th November, 2025.

Dr. the Honourable Michael Dowlath, Minister of Education was joined by Assemblyman Zorisha A. Hackett, Secretary of Education, Research and Technology Mr. Joel Sampson, Member of Parliament for Tobago West and David Thomas, Member of Parliament for Tobago East at the ceremony.

Minister Dowlath delivered the feature address reassuring parents, teachers, and students of the capacity of the laptops for enhancing education. “We are not just giving students devices, we are giving them intelligent learning companions designed to unlock their future potential.”

Assemblyman Hackett also addressed those present and reminded students to use their new devices responsibly. “These devices have the power to open doors, but it’s your habits, your choices, that will determine how far you will go.”

Minister Dowlath and Permanent Secretaries, Mr. Claudelle McKellar and Mrs. Simone Williams led a team of senior executives from the Ministry of Education. Also in attendance were Ms. Onica Blackman, Telecommunications Services Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) Country Operations Manager, Tobago and Mr. Walter Stewart, President of the National Council of Parent Teacher Associations (NPTA).

All laptops being distributed will feature an AI teaching assistant designed to meet the needs of students following the national secondary school curriculum. Students will be able to use this resource throughout the course of their secondary school academic journey. Each of these laptops also features security measures to ensure that all student recipents have a safe and productive digital experience.

Distribution will continue at all remaining schools in the nation in the coming weeks. The Ministry of Education is committed to ensuring that every student across Trinidad and Tobago receives a laptop as part of this nationwide initiative.
